5 reasons why you should probably have a cervical screening test

It's Cervical Cancer Prevention Week (19-25 January) and Jo's Trust is asking all women to promise to have a smear test / cervical screening. So why should you have yours?

1) Well, for starters, you're a woman

This is a girls-only club. Sorry boys.
But I hear you get some "fun" tests of your own
Enjoy :)

2) You're over 25 / You haven't had one in the last 3-5 years

Or EVER.
Yep, some women never go for a cervical screening.
Um. Hello. This is your HEALTH we're talking about here.

3) In fact, only 1 in 3 women (aged 25-29) don't go for the test

WHAT.
Only 1 in 3?
That's like so stupid I can't even make up a joke about how stupid that is.
Willies.

3) But it only takes, like 10, minutes

Yep. TEN.
You lie down... the nurse brings out (as me and my friends like to call it) The Duck, AKA the speculum.... You breathe deeply.... she gently swabs your cervix with a looooong thin brush....and that's it.
Over and out.

4) 5,000 womens' lives are saved by this test each year

Wow. Just wow.
That little 15 minute test alerted 5,000 women to early diagnosis / prevention, and saved their lives as a result
HOW MANY LIVES DID YOU SAVE LAST YEAR, HUH?
You - nil.
Cervical screening - 5,000.

5) And only 90-97% of all screenings are negative

So, you're unlikely to have it anyway.
But as your mother has always said: better to be safe than sorry

[OK, so a Pap is an American term for smear test / cervical screening, but you know where I'm going with this. Believe it or not, it's tough trying to find a UK-centric-cervical-cancer-relevant-Ryan-Gosling meme.]

Anywho. I've actually already had my cervical screening. I booked it as soon as I turned 25 and got my NHS notification letter. It was over quickly, and only mildly uncomfortable (come on girls, we shoot human beings out of our vaginas, we are SUPERHEROES). Thankfully, it was negative. But the only reason I know that is because of this test.

So. Have you had yours yet?

Shopping: Shop Jeen Disney skirt

ERHAGERD! IT'S A SKIRT WITH BEAUTY AND THE BEAST ON IT. IT MUST BE MINE. I MUST WEAR IT TO THE ACTUAL DISNEYLAND.

And that's what I did.

ShopJeen is an awesome site. I stumbled across them on Instagram and fell in love with their pizza slut, Disney, and 90s themed merch immediately. So when we booked DisneyLand, I finally had an excuse to pay the $10 shipping fee from the US of A.

SO GLAD I DID. Because I was the coolest 25 year old in Paris. Fact*

The Disney skirts are selling out fast, but you can still get the Sleeping Beauty one. They also have leggings which are so bad they're good.

*Or so my mummy told me so.

Review: New Year's Eve nails - by Nazila

HAPPY NEW YEAR MOFOS!

What better way to see in 2014 than with some unnecessarily dramatic and aggressive pointy nails?

That's what I thought.

I love these nails by Nazila. Having said that, I am a talon-novice, so I found these a bit of a pain in the arse (LITERALLY HAHAHAHA).

Badass, yes. Practical, no.

I'd only be able to wear them for one night/event/occasion. I wasn't able to perform basic tasks (putting on tights, picking up kirby grips). However, I excelled at other tasks (back-scratching and nose-picking).

So if you'd like to be completely impractical but totally awesome, you can find Nazila products here. They're also sold in River Island (some are in the sale now. GO!)

I got a few designs from Father Christmas, but they seem to retail at around £14(ish), which is reasonable considering this nail art would cost a fuck-bomb at a salon. Probably.

This design is called Stars and Stripes and cost £14.99.
